It's About Time...

So, in the not _quite_ a month it's been since I last blogged, I've actually managed to do something worthy of note ;) I've finally acquired a job here in my chosen state, New Jersey. Today is, in fact, my first day on the job and It's going just fine. I'm an admin assistant for a branch office of Ingersoll-Rand. It's a small office but there are a lot of things going on, so I haven't been very idle.

Unfortunately, this Christmas will be the first time I don't spend it with my family, but I suppose that's one of the consequences of moving five states away. I bear it all gladly though, knowing that Pattie and Erica are making up for it by spending so much time with their own families ;)

The couch and other various things...

Because Lianne wants to know, I'm going to talk about my couch tonight ;p This couch would be the large striped monster that was handed down from Jenn to Lianne, and finally to myself. Since I didn't have a bed to bring with me to New Jersey, I had the great idea to take the large couch from the basement, since I slept on it quite a bit anyway. Unfortunately, there was insufficient hallway space to maneuver it into my room here. ..so to answer Lianne's question, it has stayed in the living room and is in front of the sliding doors. I am currently sleeping on my twin airbed, with my comforter between me and the cold air inside the bed. So far it's been working out =^.^= If it will last all winter remains to be seen.... In any event, it's not the first time that I've ever lived on an airbed.

In completely unrelated news, I had my first 'social' event here in New Jersey, an event where I met people I hadn't known before. Eric and I went to a get together his sister was having with a lot of her friends for a big game day. We sat around a table and played games pretty much all day. I took my Munchkin game and somebody else brought Space Munchkin so we combined them to have a really hilarious run =^.^= I was introduced to the Brawl card game which is very fast but very tiring o.O~ And we played a good long strategy type game called Puerto Rico that was fun, but took a long time to learn! There was a fountain of coke and many cookies so I was a happy camper ;) The people were really cool, but would have been a lot more interesting if most of them hadn't been married parents... Marriage is one thing, but I tend to notice that people with very small kids just seem to lose a little something of themselves... which is as it should be I suppose, but makes for many interruptions during gameplay ;p

A Registered Citizen

Well, that's it then...I'm now an official New Jersey resident =^.^= I was able to get my new driver's license last week, however, due to several different issues, was unable to register my car until today. Now, though, I have a shiney new license in my pocket, complete with dreadful picture, and shiney new plates on my car!

*does a little uglyyellowplate dance*

Now I can dedicate myself more fully to finding employment, as I have a suspicion I won't truly be an NJ citizen until I start paying some taxes ;p

Well....my computer is assembled and connected to the Internet...and that's the most important thing, right? ;p

For Final Fantasy Enthusiasts

I was taking a break today and thought I'd look up a favorite Final Fantasy flash movie to watch. Well it turns out that the website has been completely overhauled and now there are a total of three flash movies. Here is the link.

The first one there is the original one that I wanted to watch and features a great parody of the Chocobo song and tons of characters from FF 1-10. The third one though, Final Fantasy A+, was extremely hilarious, and I highly recommend it, not only for a good laugh but to marvel at the time and creativity that went into it. The artist basically made their own Final Fantasy game revolving around doing schoolwork... ;p They even put in a japanese voicetrack, complete with subtitles =^.^=

An Empty House And Crazy Cats

Bleh...I'm so sore, however most of my stuff is packed onto the moving truck now. Thanks go to Lianne for helping get things packed in well. I've never had to use a moving truck before so doing things like tying stuff down and 'wedging' were beyond my ability to understand until now ;p Luckily for me, Lianne is a master at moving.

My basement home seems so empty now. We went through last night and threw out everything that I wasn't taking and Lianne didn't want, which was mostly a lot of stuff that Jenn didn't want to take with her when she left (Don't worry, Jenn, we still have your Nintendo 64 ;) So now I just have to pack up the old computer and game systems...and clean the place ....;/ Ah well, no rest for the weary...

One for the Underdog

I am, by no means, a sports fan. I don't follow any major sport and frankly don't have much of an interest. However, I came across this interesting bit of news surrounding the Red Sox winning the world series.

Apparently, the "curse" of the Red Sox was so great that no one ever expected them to win...and now some things that were put into motion, based on them losing, will have to be changed =^.^=

So I say, Kudos go to the Red Sox for bucking everyone's assumptions and for keeping movie companies on their toes ;)

Dust Bunnies

So, I'm mostly packed now. All that's left is a few random boxes of stuff laying around the house, some old computer parts, and all my dirty clothes.

It was actually rather fun packing last night. I was opening up all the boxes I had already stacked in my room (from when I moved in 2 and half years ago) and rediscovering all the old junk I have. I have more cool shit than I thought I did ;p I was also going through all my old sketch books and laughing at the bad sketches and being amazed by the few good ones, which look better than I remember them being... I hope one day to scan them all in and make an online gallery, but well, I've been saying that for over a year now o.O~ However, at least now I know where they all are, and that's something =^.^=

Today is also my last day working here at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD. I've been temping here for close to 2 years, but only for about 3 months in this particular building. However, that wasn't enough to deter the scientists, who work here, from throwing a goodbye party for me. You'd think they wouldn't have time for such things while they're oh, trying to come up with cures for Cancer and AiDs, but it's all about the party food with these guys ;p Any reason to bring in fattening food for them to eat before lunch is reason enough =^.^= Still, I was touched by the sentiment though.

The Beginning of the End

*does a little blog dance*

So this is what a blog feels like eh? Funny, I don't _feel_ like my life has suddenly been exposed to millions of people worldwide...

Anyway, I thought this might be a good idea...moving to a new state, keep in touch with friends, yadda yadda yadda. All with the convenience of actually not having to talk to anyone, woohoo! ;)

So this weekend will mark the beginning of my New Jersey citizenship. As of now, it just means that I'll have to spend the next couple of days packing my junk and clean up after myself so that 'Lianne, formerly know as Roommate' won't have a complete mess when I leave.

I'll make sure to keep everyone posted on how many dust bunnies I uncover...which will basically be my life the next two days =^.^=
